Elizabeth Ann Ellis Deason (Liz)

Elizabeth Ann Ellis Deason (Liz), 84, passed away peacefully at home on June 19, 2022.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dr. Mel Deason, two daughters, Julie Deason and Kit Deason,
two grandsons, Graham Heifner and Deason Heifner, a great grandson, Julian Heifner, a sister, Patsy
Kindsvatter, a brother, Tom E. Ellis, and a host of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Copeland and Eugenia Bell Ellis.
Liz grew up in Ensley Baptist Church and committed her life to Christ at 9 years old.
She earned a degree in education from Howard College, where she helped to move the library from the
East Lake campus to the Homewood campus in 1957.
She was a model pastor’s wife, serving churches alongside her husband in Kentucky, Alabama, and
Florida. All the while, she molded the lives of hundreds of children as a teacher for more than 40 years.
She loved her family and took special delight in her grandsons and great grandson.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 25 th , at 11 a.m., at Shades Crest Baptist Church in
Hoover, AL, with visitation starting at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shades
Crest Baptist Church building fund.
