John Marshall Brown

John Marshall Brown, retired Sylacauga Home Depot office associate for over 20 years, has died at the age of 72 from esophageal cancer. He was born in Sylacauga on August 17, 1949, to Harry Ison Brown and Margaret Whetstone Brown.
A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, 1501 Talladega Highway in Sylacauga on Friday, May 20 at 2pm.
John was preceded in death by his parents and wife of almost 30 years, Kathey Blackwell Brown. He served as Kathey’s caregiver for 10 years until her death in 2016.
John is survived by his brother Harry I. Brown, Jr., daughter Paula Abrams, sister-in-law Bobbi Isbell (Tony) and best friend and fellow Sylacauga High trumpeter Howard White. He is also survived by nephews Jason Isbell (Kim), Harry Brown III (Kathleen), Adam Brown (Vanessa), niece Cathy Brown Johnson (Paul) and numerous nieces and nephews.
John embraced The Home Depot and its mission. He was passionate about displaying excellence and treated every challenge at work by personally “owning the problem.” He loved the game of golf and watched every tournament he could on TV. The pinnacle of his golfing success was being crowned Coosa Valley Country Club Champion in 1985. John was graduated from Sylacauga High School in 1967 and The University of West Alabama in 1973.
The family requests no flowers but memorials may be made to an organization of your choice. Acknowledgements should be mailed to 317 W. Clay St., Sylacauga, AL 35150. The Rev. Bill Brown will direct the service
