James “Jimmy” Daniel Stegall passed away peacefully Sunday, August 14, 2022 at Bibb County Hospital in Centreville, AL with his wife, Eva, by his side. He was born on April 21, 1936 in Tuscaloosa, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Mattie Stegall of Emelle, Alabama. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Eva Pennington Stegall; his siblings Glenda Spears (Bob) of Livingston; Annie Lou Kuykendall (Harvey) of Cumming, GA; his son Daniel Bell Stegall (Brittany) of Helena, AL; his daughter Louise Stegall Carey (Todd) of Centreville; grandchildren Carly McFerrin (Braxton), Faith Crocker (Jared), Blakely Stegall, Abbi Johnson, and step grandsons Jacob Carey and Jarrett Carey. Both of Jimmy’s parents were born and raised in Emelle. He was raised for the first nine years of his life in Winfield, AL where he went to school through fourth grade. They then moved to Emelle where he attended York for two years, then was a graduate of Livingston High School. He then received a bachelor’s degree in Business Education from Livingston University (UWA). He worked in his father’s store where he later took over the family business from his father in 1960 as an owner of Jimmy Stegall’s Grocery. He retired in 1998 after working almost 50 years helping his community with all their essential needs. He and his wife were married on July 22, 1965 and recently celebrated their 57th Wedding Anniversary with immediate family. For many years, he and Eva enjoyed traveling in their RV on trips to places like New York, Branson, out West, Grand Canyon, and so much more with great friends and family. They loved their community and thrived from it. He was a lifelong member of Emelle Community Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He was very active there as well as The Gideons International. After moving to Centreville, he became a member at McDaniel Memorial UMC where he sang in the choir. His love of Christ extended wherever he went and was evident in his demeanor and attitude towards others. They lived in Emelle, AL until they moved to Centreville, AL to be closer to their children and grandchildren. He so loved his grandchildren and wanted to spend as much time as possible being with them and attending their events every time he could. He will be missed dearly by all, but wants all to remember…Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” John 14:3 “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” Honorary Pallbearers include his grandchildren.
