James, known as Steve to some, passed away on December 16, 2022. James was born on July 08, 1949 to James D. Blythe and Nellie M. Webb. He was proceeded in death by his mother. James is survived by three brothers, Michael Blythe, Robert Blythe and John Crenshaw; one daughter, Ashley (Susan) Bates (David Bates); two granddaughters, Felicia N. Hemingway and Mary (Allie) Zajac (Brandon Zajac) and nieces and nephews. James is also survived by his very special love, Exa Hogan. She was a true angel to him in his time of need. The family gives her so many thanks for everything! James served in the Navy for many years. He loved serving his country. He took pride in the USA and all fellow soldiers. He started out cooking and ended up being a trainer for drug dogs. Throughout his life, he has done many other things as well, including, being a race car driver in Guam and in Tennessee, owning his own carpet business, owning his own restaurant, being a radio personality, a truck driver, plus other various things including working at Waffle House at the age of 73. He didn't know how to stop. He loved his work. The one thing that stands out most about James is his ability to make friends wherever he went. He is a great friend to all. He so loved helping others yet didn't want to receive help for himself when he really needed it. He had many hobbies including; loving to dance, painting, cooking, yard work and growing flowers. He also doted on his three cats he loved so much and took excellent care of. Even after his life ended, he still helped others by donating eye tissue for diabetic eye research. He will forever be missed. Arrangements are as follows: Friday February 17th at 12:30, there will be a Naval Memorial Service at Montevallo National Cemetery at 3133 HWY 119 Montevallo, AL 35115.
