On September 17, 2022, Robert William Bedell a beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away. He was ninety-two. Born April 8, 1930 in Norwalk Connecticut to Charles and Irma (Buckingham) Bedell. He married Alice Mae (Gretter) April 7, 1951. Robert is survived by his wife Alice, his daughters Sharon (Scott) Mugno and Tracy Kelley, his grandchildren; Madeline (Will) Boulware, Kaitlin Mugno (Jake Wissing), Stanley (Cheyenne Smith) Kirkey Jr., Kourtney Kelley and Brandon Kelley and two great grandchildren, Stanley Joel Kirkey III and Riverleigh Anna Kelley. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 20 and served on the S.S. Gilmore during the Korean War He served until 1954 when he was honorably discharged. Bob and Alice were married for 71 years and spent many of their retirement years traveling around the U.S. in their motorhome. He was an entrepreneur, and along with his wife Alice, owned and operated many businesses. Over the course of their marriage they lived in six states. They moved to their current residence in Russellville, Alabama in 2011, where both their daughters live. He enjoyed woodworking, boating and fishing off shore in Florida. He also enjoyed the time they spent traveling around the country in their motorhome. His favorite area to see was always out West. He was known for his constant joking and humor and he never met a stranger he couldn’t talk to. All who knew him, loved him. Robert was preceded in death by his son Thomas, father Charles, mother Irma, father and mother-in-law Clem and Alice (Wolter) Gretter. Per his wishes, he was cremated. There will be a celebration of life Saturday, September 24, 2022 at the home of Bob and Alice Bedell, 194 Valley View Drive, Russellville, AL from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. All who wish to stop by and celebrate this incredible life are welcome. Bob will be returned to his home in Norwalk, Connecticut to rest along side his son Thomas, parents Charles and Irma, his in laws Clem and Alice Gretter and the rest of the Bedell family at Riverside Cemetery.
